Coming Full Circle Through Art

When the maker becomes the mentor.

When Amira first joined AWE as a summer intern, she was a quiet high school junior who loved to draw anime but rarely shared her work. Through mentorship, collaborative projects, and the encouragement of teaching artists, Amira began to see herself differently — not just as a student, but as a creator with something to say.

This summer, Amira returned to AWE as a Truck Studio teaching artist, leading art activities for younger kids in the same parks where she once participated. Watching their faces light up as they created something new, she said, “This is so fulfilling and I am enjoying teaching these students — I can see myself in them.”

Amira’s story is just one example of how art creates connection, confidence, and opportunity. Her story is proof that when youth are given space to create, they grow into leaders who give back.

When you give to AWE, you help more young people find their voices — and share them with the world.
